Our philosophy
We see the world getting better, not worse. Thus we strive to contribute in our own way to this process through responsible, ethical and value-based business practices.
Choosing our Clients Carefully
Having the skills and education that give us the privilege to practice law are powerful tools we wield very carefully. We work hard to ensure our talents are used to their best advantage. To this end, we screen projects we deem irresponsible or unethical. Examples of such cases include:
- Malicious lawsuits meant only to vex, harass, and waste the time, energy and resources of the court system
- Fraudulent behaviour that seeks to use the legal system for their own enrichment
- People who we sense are not being truthful, honest and complete in communications with us regarding all relevant facts involving their legal situation (lawyers aren't the only people who can be dishonest)
Creating Value not just Making Money
We see business as something larger than a day-to-day living. In our view a business is an organic entity that can benefit the community by providing jobs, training and education, assistance to vulnerable sectors, charity work, resources for other professionals and so on.
Yes, we have bills to pay, and in that sense, the legal fees we earn is the rent money. However, we want to do what, Benjamin Franklin so eloquently summed up: "Do well by doing good." That is, if we help enough people and do what is best for each client selflessly, we will inevitably do well and thrive as a law firm. In this way we can see business in a new light, as an integral part of a society.
Better Business Practices
First and foremost we are attorneys. We have a vested interest in the practice of law, and we care about our field.
We are very interested in promoting the tenets of fairness and justice in the wider community, initiating fairer business practices and assisting young barristers and clerks to find their way into the workforce.
